Wolves Edge Past Indians for Eighth Straight Win

The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to MACCC play hosting Itawamba on Monday, February 13. The Wolves outlasted the Indians in a hard-fought contest to win, 88-81.

The opening minutes of the first half saw the Indians outscore the Wolves, 14-8, to hold a lead by that margin with 15 minutes of play remaining. The Wolves responded with an 11-5 scoring run to cut the Indians lead down to 20-19 with 9:55 left in the half. The Wolves and Indians then began trading baskets and leads over the next few minutes as the Wolves outscored the Indians 13-11 to take a 32-31 lead with 4:44 remaining. The Wolves then closed out the quarter with a 14-7 scoring run to take a 46-38 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves used a quick 5-2 scoring run over the opening minute of the second half to take their largest lead of the night at 51-40 with 18:59 left in the game. The Indians responded with an 11-8, scoring run to cut the Wolves lead down to 59-51 with 14:55 remaining. A 13-11 scoring run by the Indians cut the Wolves lead down to 70-64 with 8:22 left to play in the second half. The Wolves then closed out the game with an 18-17 scoring run to secure the 88-81 victory for their eighth straight win in MACCC play.

The Wolves had three players with double-double performances in the win, but sophomore guard Jemario Hersey (Brookhaven) led the charge for the Wolves as he led all scorers with 23 points. Hersey just missed on a fourth double-double for the Wolves as he collected eight rebounds and had two blocks. Sophomore forward AJ Warnsley (Byram) posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds along with one steal while sophomore guard Cowandric Samuel (Jackson) was the floor general for the Wolves with a double-double of his own posting 16 points and game, season, and career-high 14 assists along with one steal. Freshman forward Dylan Canoville (Plantation, Fla.) posted his second straight double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds with one assist and two blocks. Sophomore forward Kaeden Laws (Southaven) had 20 points with four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
